SELC D1 – What Did We Learn This Week?

The SELC D1 has been filled with good games and some surprises so far! Scott MacPherson breaks down all the early season action and let’s us know where everyone stands.

Each week Scott MacPherson will be updating us on all the happenings in the SELC!  He’ll cover D1 and D2 separately.  Below you will find the full D1 report!

Northeast Division

Clemson (div.2-0, over.3-1) – Lost to #5 nationally ranked Boston College 11-5 and defeated Central Florida 14-9 in Clemson SC.
East Carolina (div.0-1, over.0-2) – Lost to SELC D1 Appalachian State 12-11 in Boone NC.
NC State (div.0-1, over.0-3) – On the road in Atlanta lost to Alabama 9-5 and Georgia Tech 9-8.
South Carolina (div.0-0, over.1-0) – Did not play.
Wake Forest (div.0-0, over.1-0) – Opened the season with a 14-3 win over SELC D2 Davidson.

Northeast Division Notes: Clemson was outscored 6-1 in the second half of their loss to Boston College. The Tigers quickly bounced back with w nice 14-9 victory over UCF. UCF lost a 1 pointer to FSU last weekend. NC State losses 2 on the road including a 9-8 loss to GT. NC State was outscored 2-1 in the 4th. Seems like that is one that just got away from the WolfPack. We will see what the Gamecocks have this weekend as they travel to Tallahassee to play those FSU Seminoles and undefeated Southwest leader Georgia.

West Virginia (div.0-0, over.0-0) – Has not started season.

Northwest Division Notes: Almost no action in the Northwest division and the division remains “winless”. Hokies still rule.

Southeast Division

Central Florida (div.0-1, over.1-3) – On the road lost 13-9 to Boston College and Clemson 14-9.
Florida (div.1-0, over.2-0) – Division win 17-9 over USF and SELC D2 Palm Beach Atlantic U 11-7.
Florida State (div.2-0, over.2-1) – Overtime loss to Boston College 8-7.
Miami (div.0-0, over.0-1) – Lost 13-4 to SELC D2 Florida Gulf Coast U.
South Florida (div.0-2, over.1-2) – Lost to Florida 17-9.

Southeast Division Notes: FSU lost to top 10 ranked Boston College in overtime. The Gators opened their season with 2 wins, one in division over USF who now is 0-2 in-division. UCF traveled to Clemson SC and lost to Boston College and Clemson, both are nationally ranked. Things remain the same in the Southeast, FSU, Florida, UCF battle it out for the 2 playoff spots.

Southwest Division

Alabama (div.1-0, over.3-1) – A good weekend in Atlanta for the Tide as they rolled over NC State 9-5 and Georgia Tech 8-6.
Auburn (div.0-1, over.1-1) – Divisional loss to Georgia 11-5.
Georgia (div.2-0, over.3-0) – Beat divisional rival Auburn 11-5
Georgia Tech (div.1-1, over.3-1) – Went 1-1 over the weekend, lost in division to Alabama 8-6 and won a cliff hanger to SELC foe NC State 9-8.
Mississippi (div.0-2, over.1-2) – Traveled to Memphis Tennessee and defeated Kentucky 12-10.

Southwest Division Notes: Georgia Tech’s Kennesaw State hangover is officially over. Nice 1 goal win over the WolfPack. GT’s defense held off the WolfPack when they had too. That is a nice trait to have. Georgia is at the top of the division with a 2-0 in-division record. The Dawgs travel to Tallahassee to tangle with FSU and South Carolina. Alabama very much in the hunt with a 2-0 weekend and 1-0 in-division record. Mississippi got their 1st win of the season over Kentucky. Only Mississippi is on the edge of being out of the divisional race. Otherwise everyone is still in contention.
