Lacrosse Magazine has released its Preseason Top 20 MCLA Rankings for 2013, and it’s no surprise that St. Thomas once again occupies the top spot. Last year, the Tommies lost one game to St. John’s during the regular season, and then went on to defeat GVSU 9-8 in the title game, for their third title in four years.

Westminster middie, Jake Arthur, was named as LM’s Preseason D2 Player of the Year.

Lacrosse Magazine’s complete rankings are as follows:

MCLA Division II Preseason Top 20

1. St. Thomas
2. Grand Valley State
3. Westminster
4. North Dakota State
5. Dayton
6. St. John’s
8. Briarcliffe
9. Concordia (Calif.)
10. Indiana Tech
11. Western Oregon
12. Elon
13. St. Mary’s (Calif.)
14. Kennesaw State
15. Washington (Mo.)
16. Coast Guard
17. Missouri Baptist
18. Cal State Fullerton
19. Sam Houston State
20. Liberty

Preseason Player of the Year

Jake Arthur, Westminster, Sr. M

Arthur has amassed 126 points (with 105 goals) in only 53 games and is slated to have a huge senior year. If Westminster wants to make another real run at a title, Arthur should play a large role, and a 70 or 80 point season isn’t out of the question. If Colin Madsen, Jeff Peters, Braeden Daly, and Chris Burckle also have great years, then the rest of the MCLA D2 needs to be on alert when playing Westminster.

The #12 University of Texas is having a heck of a season, currently sitting at 8-3 and 5-0 in conference. With three one-goal losses to #9 Boston College, #10 Sonoma State, and #7 UCSB, the Longhorns are definitely the team to beat in the LSA this year.
