Editor’s note: After the success of our “Growing the Program” series last year, we knew we had to follow up with another league-wide update. So, this Fall we’re hitting the streets in search of new information about teams around the MCLA. We’re asking questions about try-outs, players to watch, team promotion, coaching changes and everything this side of the Mississippi. With that, here come our Fall Ball Reports!
Each report will feature a different MCLA team, touching on the importance of Fall Ball and anticipation of the 2012 season – which is just a few months away!
Today we speak with Coach Ken Lovic of Georgia Tech University.
MCLA Fan: How many players attended team tryouts this Fall?
Coach Lovic: 42.
What is your team’s Fall practice schedule?
Wednesday and Thursday afternoons on the field. Tuesday and Thursday morning conditioning workouts.
What is your team’s Fall game/tournament schedule?
Friday, Oct. 30 6:30pm vs Emory- Won 13-1
Friday, Oct. 6 7:00pm vs Shorter College
Friday, Dec. 2 6:00pm vs Valdosta State
What aspect(s) of your team do you hope to most improve upon from last year?
Offense. We have routinely been a strong defensive team but have always lacked some solid offense. Our recruiting class brought us some much needed talent on the offensive end of the field. We of course will work to continue strong defensive play.
Who are the top 5 players we should be paying attention to this season?
Michael Thomas, Freshman, Attack, #11
Ryan Jarriel, Senior, Midfield, #15
Mick Stapleton, Freshman, Midfield, #8
Jeff Delong, Junior, Attack, #28
Trey Gantt, Freshman, Midfield, #6
What are you doing to promote your program on campus and in the community?
Social media, banners on campus, live web feeds of our games, and poster schedules.
What are your program’s top 3 goals for the upcoming 2012 season?
1. Win our SELC regional division
2. Compete for an SELC title
3. Win our home schedule
Thanks so much for speaking with us Coach Lovic. Good luck this season
