Senior Eric Schmid scored five goals leading Coast Guard to a 13-4 win over Stonehill in the semifinals of the Pioneer Collegiate Lacrosse League (PCLL) Division II tournament.
The Bears, who improve to 10-4 on the season, will play for the championship and an automatic bid to the national tournament tomorrow at noon at Brown University’s Erickson Athletic Complex.
Coast Guard jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with goals from senior Paul Dellisola, senior Stuart Carley and sophomore Kyle Carosotto before Stonehill tallied a pair of goals to close out the first quarter.
The Bears dominated play in the second quarter outscoring Stonehill 5-0 with Schmid scoring the final three goals of the half.
Junior Pat Dreiss and sophomore Robert McKenna scored before Schmid scored three straight goals as the Bears led 8-2 at halftime.
Carley, Dreiss and Dellisola all found the back of the net as Coast Guard took a commanding 11-2 lead in the third quarter before Stonehill scored as Coast Guard led 11-3 after three quarters.
Schmid, who also had five goals in the first round win over New Haven on Thursday, added pair of goals in the fourth quarter to give him ten in the two tournament games.
Carley, Dreiss and Dellisola all scored a pair of goals in the win for Coast Guard.
