The MCLA’s Southwest Lacrosse Conference has managed to pack a lot of drama into the last 10 days of the regular season, including the possibility that Loyola Marymount, which was 1-8 just a few weeks ago, still could finish third in its division and make the SLC playoffs.

It’s March Madness in the MCLA

Amidst snowstorms and inclement weather, the No. 2 Colorado men’s lacrosse team fell to the top-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils 8-6 Saturday, March 14. After attaining the top rank in the NCAA club lacrosse polls two weeks ago, this is the second loss the Buffs have suffered after losing to the Michigan State Spartans 11-10 on March 8.
The 16th-ranked Westminster College men’s lacrosse team saw a five-goal lead disappear in an 11-10 overtime loss to No. 20 Arizona on Thursday evening at Dumke Field.
No. 1 Arizona State defeated No. 2 Colorado 8-6 to secure their seventh straight win and remain atop the top of the MCLA’s rankings. It may not have become the offensive explosion that some were expecting, but both teams performed remarkably well on the defensive side of the ball.

Despite assurances that heavy stuff wasn’t going to come down for a few more hours, the skies opened up just in time for the opening face Wednesday night in Simi Valley. So Cal State Fullerton and host USC, playing another neutral-site home game, played the first half in a steady downpour.
