Boy it’s good to be back in the south. After being the punching bag for UCSB and Cal Poly the previous weekend out west, the Dawgs returned home for a couple of SELC games this past weekend.

I looked around in exasperation. How did we squander this lead? We’d led Auburn 9-5 with 7 minutes to go and had thoroughly outplayed them. Up 9-8 with only 1:14 left, all we needed to do was run out the clock. But we turned it over.

There are a lot of philosophies out there for how to approach an opponent. A lot of times, I try to hate the team I’m playing against. Dehumanize them. Make them “the enemy.” It’s a war mentality that keeps me focused. But it doesn’t work in every situation. Sometimes, the cliché holds true: keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
