SELC D2 – What Did We Learn This Week?

0 - Published February 28, 2012 by in Uncategorized

EN: Scott MacPherson is back on MCLAFan with another stellar rundown of the SELC D2.  Every team has played at least one game overall, and many have quite a few conference games under their belts.  SECL D2 lacrosse is heating up as we enter March!

Northeast Division

Charleston (div. 1-1, overall 3-2) – Did not play
Citadel (div. 2-1, overall 3-3) – Defeated Wofford 13-4
Coastal Carolina (div. 2-0, overall 4-1) – Lost to South Carolina 10-7
UNC-Charlotte (div. 0-2 overall 0-3) – Lost 19-6 to Elon
Wofford (div. 0-1, overall 0-2) – Lost to the Citadel 13-4

Northeast Division Notes: I’m sorry that I didn’t get down to Columbia SC to see the Coastal Carolina South Carolina game. Coastal’s Ryan Redmond torn up the Gamecocks defense for 6 of the 7 Coastal goals. Coastal Carolina seems to be on a collision course with the perennial SELC D2 powers. The Citadel got a division win over Wofford and is 2-1 in the division. The backyard clash between the Citadel and Charleston on April.21 will probably decide the second place playoff spot. UNC Charlotte get blasted by Elon 19-6, the slide continues.

Northwest Division

Appalachian State (div. 0-1, overall 2-2) – Lost to Liberty 16-11
Davidson (div. 1-1, overall 2-4) – Defeated Southern Virginia 15-7
Elon (div. 0-0, overall 3-0) – Blasted UNC Charlotte 19-6
Liberty (div. 2-0, overall 2-0) – Defeated Appalachian State 16-11
Southern Virginia (div.0-1, over.0-2) – Lost to Davidson 15-7

Northwest Division Notes: Liberty took a big step in the division with a win over Appalachian State. Liberty is 2-0 in division and this win gives them a tie breaker advantage over the Mountaineers. Elon has yet to play a division game, but they have been dispatched their first three opponents easily. Still lots to play out in this division.

Southeast Division

Florida Gulf Coast (div. 0-0, overall 1-0) – Did not play
Georgia Southern (div. 1-0, overall 2-2) – Beat North Florida 8-4
North Florida (div. 0-2, overall 0-6) – Lost to Georgia Southern 8-4
Palm Beach Atlantic (div. 0-0, overall 0-1) – Did not play
SCAD (div. 1-0, overall 2-2) – Lost to Dayton 12-10, Defeated Indiana Tech 13-11

Southeast Division Notes: Georgia Southern goes 1-0 in the division with a win over North Florida. UNF is now 0-6 for the season. SCAD had a come from ahead loss to Dayton. The Bee’s were up by three goals at the half, but were outscored 7-1 in the 3rd quarter. In the Bee’s victory over Indiana Tech, the Bee’s used a 7 goal 3rd quarter to put away the game.

Southwest Division

Emory (div. 0-1, overall 0-3) – Did not play
Kennesaw State (div. 0-0, overall 1-4) – Lost to Indiana Tech 19-6 and Dayton 11-3
Reinhardt (div. 1-0, overall 2-1) – Did not play
Tennessee Wesleyan (div. 0-0, overall 1-1) – Did not play

Southwest Division Notes: Only Kennesaw State played over the weekend and they lost 2 at home, giving up 30 goals and scoring only 9. Rough weekend at home. I can hear the chant now “Bring on Division Play!”.

NOTE: “SELC D2 – What did we learn this Week?” will be on vacation next week! I will be traveling to Sweden for my real job and I’ll probably be working too hard (Insert laughter here) to keep blogging!
