Editor’s Note: Scott MacPherson is back to recap some wild movements in the power rankings this week!  NO ONE gets this level of in-depth coverage in the MCLA.  Heck, I don’t think any NCAA D1 teams get this kind of treatment!  If you ever wanted to learn about the MCLA, this is a great way to do it!

The top 5 did not change.  SCAD remains #1 with a solid opening win over North Florida. #2 Elon opened it’s season with a victory over the Citadel, Kennesaw stays at #3, Palm Beach Atlantic lost to SELC D1 Florida but remains #4. Appalachian State took down SELC D1 East Carolina 12-11 in their opener, but that wasn’t enough to move up in the rankings. Appalachian State gets another chance at an SELC D1 team this weekend when Wake Forest goes to Boone, NC.  That game could be quite interesting.

Numbers 6 through 12 have all changed. Coastal Carolina moved into the #6 position as they defeated division rival Charleston. In the end that win over Charleston could prove to be to the division “clincher”. Reinhardt moved up 2 places to #7 with 1 one goal victory over #15 Southern Virginia. Reinhardt is still on a roll but can they keep from being rolled at some point? The big “positive” leap in the rankings go to Florida Gulf Coast with an 8 place move from #16 to #8.  FGCU defeated SELC D1 the “U”, and that was the rocket fuel for the move.

Liberty is #9 now, a 5 spot move up in the rankings. Charleston moved down from #6 to #10 with that loss to Coastal Carolina. Victims of the “did not play” this week,Tennessee Wesleyan dropped 4 places to #11. In a “did not play” weekend, teams can move down if the performance of other teams are “worthy”. Georgia Southern defeated slumping Emory and moved up 6 slots to #12.

The bottom 8 is quite an interesting bunch. Citadel is still #13, no change. Davidson had a double loss weekend and retreated 4 places to #14. A close loss to surging #7 Reinhardt moved Southern Virginia up 4 places from the bottom to #15. UNC Charlotte dropped a slot to #16. The free fall for Emory continues they are #17. Wofford is #18. North Florida went to a “Hatchet” fight and dropped their “Hatchet” in a 22-1 loss to SCAD. I am real curious how UNF responds to this beating. Season is still young, so look forward UNF, you still have Emory, and you still have UNCC.
