Men’s Lacrosse Names 2013 Captains
SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College men’s lacrosse team has named three captains who hope to lead the Griffins to defend their title as RMLC champions, and make another national tournament appearance. Matt Hearn will serve as captain for the Griffins, with co-captains Patrick Hagan and Collin Madsen.
After playing a year at Essex Community College in Baltimore County, Hearn made his way out west to join the Griffins in the fall of 2011. Hearn has since become an offensive powerhouse for the Griffins, racking up 43 goals and 15 assists last season.
Hagan is a senior defenseman from Salt Lake City who prepped at Judge Memorial High School. Following graduation Hagan played for two years at in-state rival Utah before joining the Griffin squad as a junior last year. Hagan serves as an invaluable defensive player, picking up 43 ground balls as an LSM last season. He is a strong leader for the team both on the field, and in the weight room.
Madsen also got his start locally at Olympus High School in Salt Lake. Following his graduation he played for Dominican College in California for one season before transferring to Westminster. As an attacker for the Griffins last season he scored 36 goals and had 29 assists.
Hearn, Hagan, and Madsen will lead the team in its quest to win a national title in division two of the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association this season before moving up one division for the 2014 season.
