(Duluth, Minn – March 6, 2012) After a string of UMLC match-ups adding up to a number of wins for the Bulldogs, they now take to the road for a line-up of out-of-conference games. They’ll find themselves in California, looking to strike gold in the form of more W’s to add to their seasonal record for 2012. On this trip they will face three 2011 National Tournament teams. The three of these teams are currently ranked in the top five nationally.
“Staying healthy and mentally focused throughout these games is always difficult but we’re up to the challenge,” said senior captain and goalie, Joey Slattery.
“Although our schedule is tough, this presents a great opportunity for our team. We need to stay healthy and make sure we’re working as hard as we can both on and off the field,” said senior captain and pre season all American Mike Becken.
The first match-up will see the Bulldogs facing off against Cal Poly on Saturday, March 10 at San Luis Obispo, CA. The game starts at 4:00 pm.
The last time Cal Poly and the Bulldogs saw each other was at Cal Poly in 2009 where the two teams battled it out to a one goal game with the Mustangs prevailing. Currently, Cal Poly stands with a WCLL record of 5-0, and an overall record of 5-1 for the 2012 season.
After Cal Poly, the Bulldogs will head south to Orange, California to match up with Chapman on Monday, March 12. The game starts at 6:00 pm.
Currently, Chapman stands with a SLC record of 1-0, and an overall record of 6-2. The last time the two teams meet was in 2010 at the MCLA National Tournament which saw Chapman coming out on top.
The final leg of the trip will see the Bulldogs up against the University of California Santa Barbara in Santa Barbara, California on Wednesday, March 14. The game starts at 4:00 pm.
UC Santa Barbara currently stands with a SLC record of 1-0, and an overall record of 6-0.
“It’s going to be a week filled with excellent lacrosse. Each of these teams we’ll be facing has strong lacrosse programs. There’s going to be a lot of talent for both sides on each field we step onto in this stretch,” said assistant head coach Sam Litman.
