Florida State will host the Southern Shootout this weekend.  The three-day round-robin tournament began in Atlanta, Georgia, and has been hosted in Tallahassee since 2004.  The 2012 Southern Shootout will feature the Seminoles, as well as Miami, Georgia, and South Carolina.  The Seminoles will be looking to win their 10th Southern Shootout in the past 11 years.

Florida State will being their quest for another Southern Shootout title with an SELC Southern Division game against Miami on Friday, February 17 at 6 p.m.  “We start with a league game,” said Florida State Head Coach Bill Harkins, “Miami is a much improved team, and we are sure it will be tough competition.  We will prepare very hard for it.”

The next day, Florida State will play at 2 p.m. against the Georgia Bulldogs.  Georgia won the 2008 Southern Shootout—the only time Florida State has failed to win the event in the past ten years.  “Georgia is the only other team to win the Southern Shootout,” said Harkins, “And that is always an extra bit of motivation to bring our best game.”

The Seminoles conclude their busy weekend at noon on Sunday with a game against South Carolina.  “We know that this year, USC will be one of the teams vying for the top spots in the SELC, so we cannot rest on Sunday.  We will have to improve every day if we want to win that championship.”
