Miami Lax Press Release 3/19
The University of Miami Men’s Club Lacrosse team rebounded from a disappointing first half of the season by notching their first win of the year against the University of North Texas on Monday.
Miami prevailed 10-6, led by senior attackman Chris Gotchall (4G) and junior midfielder Steve Shellbach (3G).
The Hurricanes got off to a fast start, opening the game on a 4-0 run which was highlighted by a slam-dunk goal by freshman attackman Tommy Miles. He received a feed from sophomore defenseman Samson Magid, who recorded his second point of the season.
Sophomore attackman Thomas Pecca made the most of his first start at attack this season, scoring 2 goals to go along with an assist.
Miami’s staunch defense was anchored by freshman goalie Nick Gonzalez who had 11 saves to go along with an impressive 65% save percentage. Sophomore goalie Willy Arbuckle also recorded a save in the 4th quarter.
Combined goalie and defense play helped the Hurricanes surrender a season-low 6 goals. Miami’s man-down defense also performed very well, outlasting a number of penalties which even led to two short-handed goals.
Miami hopes to keep the momentum going when they travel to Atlanta to take on Georgia Tech and Auburn in two weekends.
