Griffins advance to title game with 19-6 win

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The third-ranked Westminster College men’s lacrosse team defeated Northern Colorado, 19-6, on Friday to advance to the championship game of the 2012 Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference Tournament.
Westminster is now 14-3 overall this season while Northern Colorado falls to 7-8. This marks the sixth time in as many years that the Griffins have reached the finals of the conference tournament. They will face the winner of Montana State and Fort Lewis on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Jake Arthur led the Westminster attack on Friday with five goals and two assists. Collin Madsen contributed four goals and two assists with Gian Sexsmith adding two goals and four assists. Kevin Gee scored three goals and Brett Bird had one goal and three assists.
Chris Burckle made three saves while allowing just one goal during his time in goal for the Griffins. Adam Marfice and Craig Patrick also played goal and recorded five and three saves respectively. Marshall Serzen won 13-of-18 faceoffs.
The Griffins are the defending RMLC champions and have won the tournament three times.
