Davenport Rolls Past Wisconsin; Pulls Away from #6 St. Johns

Fourth-ranked Davenport improved to 7-3 on the season with a pair of wins this weekend against MCLA D1 Wisconsin and MCLA D2 #6 St. Johns. The Panthers will have another tough test next weekend when Davenport takes on #8 Briarcliffe and #14 SCAD in Long Island, N.Y.

Panthers Roll Past MCLA D1 Wisconsin 11-5

WALES, Wisc. – Davenport improved to 2-1 on the season against MCLA D1 teams, defeating the University of Wisconsin-Madison 11-5. Davenport jumped out to a 8-2 lead and held on for the six goal win.

Jordan Richtsmeier and Jack Turcotte got the Panthers started with both players scoring goals for Davenport in the first five minutes of play. Taylor Start picked up assists on both goals. After a Wisconsin goal, Richtsmeier added his second goal of the game to give the Panthers a 3-1 lead after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Dominic Boggiano and Quintin St. Clair each added a goal to push the Panthers lead to 5-1. Boggiano scored another goal just before the end of the first half and added his third goal of the game in the middle of the third to give the Panthers a 7-2 lead. Cody Cross added a goal for the Panthers to end the third.

Less than a minute into the fourth quarter, Lyle Parks gave the Panthers their largest lead of the game at seven goals, 9-2. Wisconsin would score three of the next four goals, with a Chapin White score in between, to cut the Panthers lead to 10-5 with just less than eight minutes to play. But Wisconsin wouldn’t get any closer. Cross added his second goal to help secure the win for Davenport.

Zach Higgins picked up his fourth win of the season after holding MCLA D1 Wisconsin to just five goals and making 10 saves.

Boggiano led the Panthers with three goals while Richtsmeier and Cross each netted two goals.

Panthers Pull Away From St. Johns For 8-4 Win

BURBANK, Ill. – Davenport finished the weekend with a 8-4 win over #6 St. Johns. The Panthers used a 4-0 third quarter to pull away from the Johnnies after a one goal game at the half.

Davenport jumped out to an early lead when Dominic Boggiano found Jordan Richtsmeier for a goal less than five minutes into the game. Cody Cross netted a goal a few minutes later to give Davenport a 2-0 lead.

St. Johns got on the board with a  man-up goal early in the second quarter. Davenport responded with a Taylor Keyworth goal a few minutes later to push the Panthers’ lead back to two. But St. Johns would add another goal in the second to make it a one goal game heading into the half.

The third quarter was all Davenport with the Panthers using a four goal run to push their lead to 7-2. Cross, Daniel Hume, and Jack Turcotte each had goals in the third with Cross scoring twice including a goal with less than a second left in the quarter.

St. Johns scored first in the fourth quarter but Davenport came back with a goal 10 seconds later to halt any thoughts of a comeback for the Johnnies. On the goal, Bobby Collar won the faceoff and immediately passed the ball to Nathaniel Adkins who took the ball down the field for the quick score.

St. Johns added another goal but wouldn’t get any closer as the Panthers closed  out the 8-4 win.

Alexis Buque picked up the win in net as he made 12 saves and allowed only three goals in over 56 minutes of play. Zach Higgins came in with a few minutes left, after a Buque penalty, and proceeded to make four saves and allow one goal.

Davenport improves to 7-3 on the season. The Panthers will be in action again next weekend when they take on #8 Briarcliffe and #14 SCAD in Long Island, N.Y. The games will take place on Friday and Sunday, live stats will be available for both games.
