Bean Shot Recap
On Saturday, June 9 the Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse and Muscle Milk joined forces to bring a new tradition to the Boston lacrosse scene. The inaugural Muscle Milk Bean Shot pitted 4 of New England’s premiere MCLA Club teams; Boston University, Northeastern, New Hampshire and UConn in a day long tournament to see who would reign as Bean Shot Champion!
The Tournament started off with a match-up of the two city based teams; Northeastern and BU. While the teams struggled a bit in the 1st qtr, they came out with guns blazing in the second. The teams traded goals, including a couple of beautiful running jump shots by Northeastern. BU went into the half with a slight edge at 4-3. The second half though was a different story, Northeastern took control outscoring the Terriers 6-1 in the half and pulled off a 10-5 win and a place in the championship game.
Like the 1st game, the second tilt between UNH and UConn got off to a slow start but the pace picked up in the second half. UNH’s defense held the high scoring Husky attack to only 5 goals total and avenged an earlier season loss to UConn. The Wildcats were lead by superb goal-tending as well as a constantly attacking offense. By pulling off the 3 goal win, UNH ensured it would get a chance to avenge another earlier season loss against Northeastern in the Finals.
With both teams already having played a match earlier, UConn just 20 minutes prior, the teams strutted back onto the field with the trophy in their sights. Northeastern scored 2 goals in the 1st and never looked back. They controlled the face-offs and their poles kept the Cats top scorers at bay. By winning 9-5, the Huskies put themselves in the in the record books as the 1st ever winners of the Muscle Milk Bean Shot.
