NORTH

Stonehill College : 2013 (7 – 5)/(2 – 1)

hill lax
B+ | We like a pretty long schedule, we would also just like to see more competition on the road and out of the region. The two scrimmages to kick off the year will be interesting for setting the tone. Competition is tough in the Northeast, but we are excited to see how the extra conference game will affect the PCLL North this season.

2/22 – Rhode Island (Home)+
3/1 – Central Connecticut (Home)
3/4 – Bridgewater (Home)+
3/7 – Grove City (Home)
3/9 – Palm Beach Atlantic (Away)
3/22 – Maine (Away)*
3/29 – U.S. Coast Guard (Home)
3/31 – Framingham (Home)*
4/5 – Briarcliffe (Away)
4/12 – S. Connecticut (Home)
4/15 – Worcester Poly Tech (Home)*
4/23 – New Haven (Away)
4/26 – Bridgewater (Away)*

Bridgewater State College : 2013 (5 – 4)/(3 – 0)

C+ | Scheduling conference games at the end of the season is always tough, especially with the Coast Guard Academy in the middle of it. Again, we would really like to see more competition outside of the region.

3/2 – New Haven (Home)
3/4 – Stonehill (Away)+
3/8 – Central Connecticut (Away)
3/9 – S. Connecticut (Away)
3/28 – New Hampshire (Away)
4/5 – Maine (Home)*
4/6 – U.S. Coast Guard (Away)
4/12 – Framingham (Home)*
4/13 – Worcester Poly Tech (Away)*
4/26 – Stonehill (Home)*

Worcester Polytechnic Institute : 2013 (2 – 8)/(1 – 2)

C+ | With a schedule so similar to Bridgewater’s, it was hard to justify not giving them the same grade. The lack of teams from outside of the region leaves much to be desired for WPI’s schedule.

3/23 – Northeastern (Home)
3/27 – Framingham (Home)*
3/29 – New Haven (Home)
4/5 – S. Connecticut (Away)
4/9 – New Hampshire (Away)
4/13 – Bridgewater (Home)
4/15 – Stonehill (Away)*
4/19 – Maine (Home)*
4/25 – Central Connecticut (Home)
4/27 – U.S. Coast Guard (Away)

University of Maine : 2013 (1 – 7)/(0 – 3)

D+ | Only two out of conference games that count toward their record is weak. We would like to see more than 6 games and 2 scrimmages – it’s basically just a conference schedule.

2/22 – Maine Maritime (Away)+
3/1 – Husson (Away)+
3/22 – Stonehill (Home)*
3/29 – Briarcliffe (Home)
3/30 – New Hampshire (Away)
4/5 – Bridgewater (Away)*
4/19 – Worcester Poly Tech (Away)*
4/26 – Framingham (Home)*

Framingham State University : New for 2013

C | Big year for Framingham, making it to the MCLA. Although we would like to see more games out of conference, it’s strange, and extremly difficult, to play an entire season on the road. It will be a tough year for the program, we hope they can retain a team to play an entirely on the road schedule.

3/27 – Worcester Poly Tech (Away)*
3/31 – Stonehill (Away)*
4/2 – New Hampshire (Away)
4/5 – Central Connecticut (Away)
4/9 – S. Connecticut (Away)
4/12 – Bridgewater (Away)*
4/17 – New Haven (Away)
4/23 – U.S. Coast Guard (Away)
4/26 – Maine (Away)*

South

U.S. Coast Guard Academy : 2013 (12 – 3)/(4 – 0)

B+ | The opening games against D1 programs and against quality competition on the road will set the tone for the season. The program is rebranding and preparing for their jump to the NCAA DIII. We expect big things from the Bears and look to see them make a playoff run.

3/1 – Connecticut (Home)
3/5 – Rhode Island (Home)
3/8 – Palm Beach Atlantic (Away)
3/9 – St. Andrews (Away)
3/21 – Central Connecticut (Home)*
3/29 – Stonehill (away)
4/2 – S. Connecticut (Away)*
4/6 – Bridgewater (Home)*
4/11 – New Haven (Away)*
4/19 – Briarcliffe (Away)*
4/23 – Framingham (Home)*
4/27 – Worcester Poly Tech (Home)

Briarcliffe College : 2013 (8 – 5)/(3 – 1)

B+ | A trip to North Carolina and a solid mix of competition throughout the season raised our eyebrows a little for Briarcliffe. USCGA will be a hard team to take down, but they should be able to handle themselves with the rest of the PCLL, yet they can’t sleep on CCSU.

2/15 – Army (Away)+
2/22 – Grove City (Away)
3/5 – Bridgeport (Home)+
3/22 – Columbia (Home)+
3/22 – Boston College (Away)
3/29 – Maine (Away)
3/30 – Rhode Island (Away)
4/2 – Central Connecticut (Away)*
4/5 – Stonehill (Home)
4/12 – UNC-Charlotte (Away)
4/13 – Elon (Away)
4/16 – S. Connecticut (Away)*
4/19 – U.S. Coast Guard (Home)*
4/26 – New Haven (Away)*

From MCLA team survey:
What are your team’s goals for the 2014 season?
The 2014 Briarcliffe College Bulldogs are looking to be a cohesive & competitive unit this season that will display discipline, teamwork & resolve. The Bulldogs will represent the College and Community with pride, respect and honor. We are an extremely young team with good veteran leadership and a very solid coaching staff. The Briarcliffe College Mens Lacrosse Team have aspirations to win the PCLL Conference Division II title, qualify for the National Tournament in SoCal in May of 2014 and contend for a MCLA Division II National Title.

Who are your players to watch this year?
Mike Austin | Middie | Freshman…a phenomenal athlete on any level of lacrosse…his drive, accountability, coachability and his teams response to him have made him a captain as a freshman…a gifted two-way player
Anthony Lapuma | Middie | senior-captain…has a excellent lacrosse IQ, is an extension of the coaching staff on the field, has excellent vision and demonstrates our ethos of Head, Heart & Hustle
Chris Friedman-Defensman | senior-captain…member of the Isreali National Lacrosse Team, is a big, physical defender, has great communication skills, is always in position as a help defender and plays aggressive but controlled defense
Frankie DiNicola | LSM | Freshman…great athlete with a superb motor, great stick skills and work ethic & plays relentlessly

Central Connecticut State University : 2013 (6 – 6)/(2 – 2)

A- | Taylor, Grove City, Pitt and USCGA on the road in a row is a real butt kicker. CCSU also has their conference games all packed at the end of the season which is known to be challenging. We are excited to see how they handle the job this year, they could be our PCLL sleeper pick.

3/1 – Stonehill (Away)
3/8 – Bridgewater (Home)
3/8 – New Haven (Home)+
3/15 – Taylor (Away)
3/15 – Grove City (Away)
3/16 – Pittsburgh (Away)
3/21 – U.S. Coast Guard (Away)*
3/28 – Bridgeport (Home)+
4/2 – Briarcliffe (Home)*
4/4 – New Haven (Away)*
4/5 – Framingham (Home)
4/25 – Worcester Poly Tech (Away)
4/27 – S. Connecticut (Home)*

University of New Haven : 2013 (4 – 7)/(1 – 3)

B | Since it is a schedule made up of mostly PCLL DII games, we had to keep it at a B. The last half of the season is at home and the road schedule is light, we just desire a little more outside competition.

2/19 – S. Connecticut (Home)+
3/2 – Bridgewater (Away)
3/8 – Central Connecticut (Away)+
3/13 – Connecticut (Home)
3/26 – S. Connecticut (Away)*

4/17 – Framingham (Home)
4/23 – Stonehill (Home)

S Connecticut State University: 2013 (0 – 9)/(0 – 4)

A- | Ironically, the team that went winless last season took on one of the tougher schedules we’ve seen. The first half of the season seems to be on the road against quality compition, and they take on essentially the entire PCLL DII. Hopefully they can get some wins under their belt and use the tough schedule to boost program confidence.

2/19 – New Haven (Away)+
