Prodigy MCLA Top 25 Polls (3/8/2011)
The Prodigy MCLA Top 25 Polls were released for this week. Michigan still reigns supreme at the #1 spot after two victories on the West coast against Chapman and Loyola Marymount. The University of Utah continues their climb up the polls getting to #11 this week with a HUGE 13-5 win over #13 Minnesota-Duluth.
#17 Simon Fraser falls to #7 Michigan State
Having one of the toughest schedules in the MCLA D1 is hard enough alone, but doing so with a small roster doesn’t help either. Nonetheless, Simon Fraser shows up to every game ready to compete and ready to win. This past weekend they met Michigan State in Vancouver, WA to battle it out before heading back North for their home game against Boise State.
Friday night the Clan faced off against Spartans in what began as a strong back and forth battle between the two teams. The Clan ended the first quarter with a 3-2 lead and held a 4-3 lead in the 2nd quarter before the Spartans started firing back, grabbing a 5-4 lead going into the half.
The second half was a story of two different quarters for each team though, with the Spartans grabbing 8 goals in the third quarter to the Clan’s 2 and the Clan working for a comeback in the fourth and getting 8 of their own to the Spartans 4. But it was too little too late and Michigan State came out with a 17-14 win over Simon Fraser.
Connor Bush led the scoring for the Spartans with 3 goals and 3 assists while Colton Dow led the Clan with 3 goals and 2 assists.
After a ride back up to Burnaby, the Clan faced off against PNCLL squad Boise State Saturday night. The Clan came ready to play and jumped out to a 5-0 lead and stayed atop, going 9-3 into the half. The third quarter came with another struggle for SFU and BSU was able to score 4 goals to bring it to a three goal game at 10-7 at the end of three. The Clan would lock up their game though, and shut out the Broncos the fourth quarter and tallied 4 more goals for themselves, winning the game 14-7.
The Clan were led by Colton Dow again with 4 goals and 3 assists while the Broncos were led by Jake Christensen with 4 goals.

All three MCLA teams went 1-1 on the weekend, Palm Beach Atlantic is now 3-4, Kennesaw State is now 7-1, and the Coast Guard Academy is now 1-1.
