Fall Ball Report: University of Alabama

0 - Published November 15, 2011 by in College

Editor’s note: After the success of our “Growing the Program” series last year, we knew we had to follow up with another league-wide update. So, this Fall we’re hitting the streets in search of new information about teams around the MCLA. We’re asking questions about try-outs, players to watch, team promotion, coaching changes and everything this side of the Mississippi. With that, here come our Fall Ball Reports!

Each report will feature a different MCLA team, touching on the importance of Fall Ball and anticipation of the 2012 season – which is just a few months away!

Today we’re speaking with Coach Nace of University of Alabama.

MCLA Fan: How many players attended team tryouts this Fall?

Coach Nace: 65.

What is your team’s Fall practice schedule?

Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 7-9

What is your team’s Fall game/tournament schedule?

Two tournamnets one in November and one in December.

What aspect(s) of your team do you hope to most improve upon from last year?

All in all, I wasn’t the coach at Alabama last year but I was a fan. I believe we have the talent to do very well this year they just needed some direction.

Who are the top 5 players we should be paying attention to this season?

Difficult to say after a month of fall ball. I am old school, playing DIII at Lynchburg in the early 90’s you learn very quickly that the first month is for everyone to get back into game shape and speed.

You will have to ask me after October.

Have there been any changes to your coaching staff? If so, please fill us in…

I am the new head coach. I am from PA and played goalie at Lynchburg 90-94. I moved to Birmingham, AL in 1995 were I still live and work as a mortgage banker. MCLA is a learning curve to say the least.

What are you doing to promote your program on campus and in the community?

The players drive to Birmingham on Sundays and help with the fall youth league. The local league is the GBYLA where we have roughly 1500 youth players.

What are your program’s top 3 goals for the upcoming 2012 season?

1. Beat Auburn

2. Win our division

3. Go to the MCLA playoffs

Thanks so much for speaking with us Coach Nace. Good luck this season!
