Ducks’ Nick Johnston Nominated for Preseason Player of the Year, Alum Scott Miller Makes MCLA All-Decade Team
Eugene, Or. – University of Oregon senior goalie Nick Johnston has been nominated for preseason player of the year by Lacrosse Magazine and Inside Lacrosse. The captain will play an important role in taking the Ducks back to the MCLA National Championships this year as part of an large, experienced senior class. Last year Johnston posted a 63.2 save percentage en route to 3rd Team All-American, 1st Team All-Conference, PNCLL Defensive MVP, and PNCLL Final Four MVP honors. He played his best in the biggest games for the Ducks as well, highlighted by a 23-save, 74.2 save percentage game against rival Simon Fraser University in the PNCLL Championship which led to an automatic bid to the MCLA National Championships. Johnston said about his nomination for preseason player of the year, “It feels great to be nominated as one of the best players in the MCLA. We are really looking forward to this season and think we can do some big things. We have a really good senior class this year and we all need to step up our games if we want to reach all our goals and that all comes down to our determination.”
Nick Johnston is building off a history of great players in the Oregon program as it was recently announced by MCLA The Lax Mag that former Duck face-off man Scott Miller was included in their All-Decade team. Miller played an integral role in the program’s only appearance in the MCLA National Championship Game in 2007. During his playing career he garnered MCLA All-American and PNCLL All-Conference 1st team honors. The entire University of Oregon lacrosse family sends their congratulations to Miller.
