It is still October, just in case you don’t own a calendar, which means we are still in a full fight against women’s cancers. This coming weekend the Florida Southern College Mocs will host the Cross-check Cancer event at Lakeland Baptist field. The event is a play day featuring four of the hottest teams in the Sunshine State: Florida, South Florida, Florida Gulf Coast, and the homers FSC. Although the Mocs compete in the NCAA DII, the UF, USF, and FGCU all participate in the MCLA.
The instate rivals will square off against each other next Saturday, and expect a large crowd. The event’s main focus is to raise awareness and funds for the Susan G. Koman Foundation of Tampa in an attempt to find a cure for breast cancer.
They are going as far a selling t-shirts and concessions, with proceeds going to the foundation.
Each team looks to start fresh this season, last year the Gators went 2-8 and were tied in the conference with the Bulls although USF finished 7-4 in the regular season, both teams posted a 2-2 record in the SELC, south east. In Div. II FGCU finished 8-3, they ended up third with a 1-2 conference record.
The Mocs look to break .500 this year after finishing 7-8 overall and 3-4 in the SSC.
Best of luck to the four squads as the team up to fight cancer.
