CSU MEN’S LACROSSE FALL SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED

Fort Collins, CO – The Colorado State Rams men’s lacrosse team announces a busy slate of tournaments and scrimmages for the 2011 fall season.  With contests against three NCAA varsity opponents and arch-rival Colorado waiting at the end of the fall, the Rams will be put to the test on three straight weekends starting on October 15.

“This is without question a very challenging and fun schedule we’ve put together in the fall,” said Colorado State University head coach Alex Smith.  “With back to back to back weekends of lacrosse, we will really get a chance to explore our weekly preparation routines and start to slot guys in spots where we might see them contributing in the spring.”

To start it off, CSU will welcome six teams to the annual Colorado State University Lacrosse Fall Invitational on Saturday, October 15 in Fort Collins, CO.  The Rams will play four games, two for their “A” squad and two for the “B.”  Colorado State’s A team will take on 2nd year NCAA Div. II team Colorado Mesa University and Genesis, a talented men’s club team from Denver, while the B team will play Metro State College and Colorado Mesa’s club team.

“It’s great that we got our tournament back and running this fall,” said Smith.  “We missed having it last year and it will be nice to see where we stand against some very good opponents on campus.  This is really the first time we will be able to get after guys in another colored jersey, so we are really looking forward to it.  Plus, this will be our young players’ best chance to get on the field and impress the coaching staff.”

Other teams in attendance include the University of Colorado and the Colorado School of Mines.  Admission is free and the games will take place on campus at Colorado State University.  The tournament will also coincide with CSU’s first annual recruiting weekend on campus.  Please visit csulacrosse.com for a full schedule of events.

The very next weekend, the Rams will take part in the 3rd Annual Colorado Lacrosse Showcase at the University of Denver on Saturday, October 22.  The Pioneers, who reached the NCAA Division I Final Four in 2011, will play against the Denver Outlaws at 1pm at Peter Barton Stadium.  Colorado State will face off against the Pioneers in game two of the triple-header at approximately 3:30pm and the day will be capped off with a game between second year programs Colorado Mesa University and Adams State College.

“I couldn’t be happier to partner up again with the University of Denver,” said Smith.  “Obviously they are doing some big things down there and we feel pretty special to be asked to be included.  This game will be a great chance for us to see where we stack up against one of the best collegiate lacrosse programs in the country.  We are very grateful to Coach Tierney and Coach Brown for making this happen.”

Tickets are $5 if purchased in advance and $10 if purchased the day-of at the DU Box Office. Tickets will go on sale on Friday, Oct. 7 at 9 a.m.  They can be purchased online at DenverPioneers.com or at the DU Box Office, located in the Daniel L. Ritchie Center on the DU campus.

Finishing out the three week fall bonanza, Colorado State will compete in the 2nd annual Pumpkin Shootout at the Manning School in Golden, CO on Saturday, October 29.  This round-robin tournament will pit the Rams against Adams State College (NCAA Div. “The Pumpkin Shootout is a very cool event,” said Smith.  “With so many great high school players on the recruiting side and our end of fall match-up with Colorado looming at the end of the day, I think we’ll be pretty pumped to put on a good show.  Last year, even though it was fall-ball, there was an electric atmosphere for our game against CU and I expect this year will be no different.”
