The Stanford Cardinal and the Sonoma State Seawolves met in the WCLL Championship lacrosse game in Novato. Sonoma lead 4-2 in the second quarter, and 6-4 at the end of the third quarter, but Stanford launched a comeback and outpaced Sonoma 4-1 in the fourth to upset the favorites, 8-7, and wins the Western Collegiate Lacrosse League championship for the first time since 1982.
1982! That’s a long time coming!
Both teams made the MCLA playoffs with Sonoma knocking off BC, 14-6 to advance. Stanford lost to Michigan State, 13-9. Sonoma State’s season ended yesterday with a 9-4 loss to 2012 Champ, Colorado State, in the Elite 8 of the 2013 MCLA Division 1 tournament.
