Grand Rapids, MI– Four members of the Aquinas College men’s lacrosse team have been named captains for the upcoming season. Senior James Burkhardt (New Baltimore), senior Tyler Rosema (Grand Haven), senior Jacob Jeffers (Grand Rapids) and junior Connor Sutton (Commerce Township) will take on the roles of captains for the Saints for 2012
Burkhardt is a three-time captain and an All-CCLA honorable mention honoree. A vocal leader on and off the field, the defensemen from Warren De La Salle Collegiate High School started all 15 games for the Saints last season. Burkhardt is the quarterback of the Saints defense and is also a threat in transition, scoring three goals last season along with five assists.
Jeffers leads the midfield as a talented two-way player and face-off specialist. The Grand Rapids Catholic Central product was named Honorable Mention All-CCLA in 2011 and contributes on both the man-up and man-down lines. Jeffers won over 130 faceoffs last season and scored 11 goals with 2 assists.
Rosema, a starting attackman, is a hard worker who leads by example. Rosema has developed into a steady and consistent leader of the Saints offense. A shifty dodger and accurate feeder, Rosema led the team with 28 assists and tied for the team lead with 51 points last season.
Sutton is a three-year starter at defense who is often matched up against opposing team’s top offensive threats. A physical player who never quits, the junior from Huron-Valley Lakeland is constantly teaching and motivating his teammates. Sutton has 1 goal and 35 groundballs in his career.
