Tuscaloosa, AL — The Alabama Crimson Tide have announced their 2013 schedule that includes a 12 game regular season. The Tide will host six opponents in Tuscaloosa this Spring, while making road trips to Louisiana, South Carolina and Florida.
The 2013 season begins on February 16th on the road against LSU. The Bama/LSU rivalry’s newest chapter will unfold in New Orleans, LA at the 3rd annual All-State Sugar Bowl Lacrosse Classic.
Alabama hosts their first SELC opponent in Tuscaloosa a week later, facing Kentucky on February 23rd.
The following week, the Tennessee Volunteers travel to Tuscaloosa for a game on Friday March 1st. The following Sunday, March 3rd, Alabama faces their first divisional test of the season against Ole Miss.
The next week, the Tide trek up to Columbia, SC. Alabama will take on the South Carolina Gamecocks and the West Virginia Mountaineers on Friday March 8th and Saturday the 9th respectively.
The second divisional test comes on March 15th when division rival Georgia Tech comes to Tuscaloosa. Alabama has won two straight in the series, coming back from a 6-2 second half deficit last season to beat the Yellow Jackets 8-6. The past few games in the series have been hard-fought defensive battles and 2013 should be no different.
Alabama makes their longest road trip of the season on March 23rd, travelling to Tampa, FL to take on the South Florida Bulls. The following Monday, the Tide square off against the Florida State Seminoles in Tallahassee. Alabama seeks redemption against the ‘Noles, who bested them twice last season: once in Tuscaloosa and once in the SELC tournament.
After returning from Spring Break, Alabama will face a critical 3-game stretch to close out the season, starting with the Georgia Bulldogs on Friday April 5th. Last season, the Tide came close to taking down the defending 3-time division champions, but fell short 8-7.
“In my opinion, it will be our biggest game of the year,” said junior attackman Chris Palasek. “The past two years it’s gone down to the wire, but we’ve fallen short both times. We know the road to the division title goes through UGA and we’re ready for the challenge.”
The next Friday, April 12th, Alabama hosts new divisional foe Vanderbilt in Tuscaloosa.
The Tide conclude the regular season on Friday April 19th against arch rival Auburn. Alabama defeated Auburn in a gritty 7-6 victory last year, clinching their first SELC playoff berth since 1996.
