8 Panthers Earn CCLA Honors for 2012 Men’s Lacrosse Season

The Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association (CCLA) announced their post-season honors. DU placed eight players among the teams as they head to the National Tournament next week.

1st Team All-CCLA
Jordan Richtsmeier – Attack (Grand Rapids, Mich. – Forest Hills Central)
Cody Cross – Midfield (Grand Rapids, Mich. – Forest Hills Central)
Kyle Anguilm – Defensive Midfielder (Ypsilanti, Mich. – Lincoln)
Adam Bowers – Long Stick Midfielder (Lowell, Mich. – Lowell)
Mac Ganzak – Defense/Defensive Player of the Year (Canton, Mich. – Canton)
Alexis Buque – Goalie (Whitby, Ontario – Leonard J. Austin)

Honorable Mention All-CCLA
Dominic Boggiano – Attack (Ada, Mich. – Forest Hills Eastern)
Sam White – Defense (Oakville, Ontario – St, Thomas Aquinas)

Eight Panthers Earn CCLA Honors for 2012 Men’s Lacrosse Season

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association (CCLA) announced their post-season awards last weekend and eight different Davenport Lacrosse players found their names on the list. For the Panthers the list was highlighted by Mac Ganzak who was named 1st Team Defense and earned Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Davenport, which recently qualified for the 2012 MCLA National Tournament in Greenville, S.C. as an at-large team, placed six players on the 1st Team All-CCLA with two other receiving honorable mention honors. With eight players earning honors, Davenport finished just behind GVSU and Dayton who had ten and nine players respectively.

Mac Ganzak led the way for the Panthers earning 1st Team Defense honors. Ganzak also became the second consecutive Davenport player to be named Defensive Player of the Year. Zachary Higgins was named Defensive Player of the Year last season.

Jordan Richtsmeier led Davenport in assists with 36 and also tallied 28 goals for the Panthers, which earned him a 1stTeam Attack nod. Cody Cross earned 1st Team Midfield honors for the second straight year after leading Davenport with 38 goals.

Also earning 1st Team honors for a second time is senior Kyle Anguilm for Defensive Midfielder while Adam Bowers received his third 1st Team honor (2nd consecutive) for Long Stick Midfielder. Alexis Buque was named to the 1st Team for the first time for his play in goal.

Dominic Boggiano and Sam White earned Honorable Mention Honors for attack and defense, respectively.

Davenport will be competing in the MCLA National Tournament for the fourth straight year when the tournament begins on May 14 in Greenville, S.C. The Panthers title defense will start with a match-up against the eleventh-seeded Concordia Cardinals out of Irvine, Calif. at 1:00 PM.
